Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is hitting stores across America.

Take Your Game to the Next Level with Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

Control the Action in Nintendo's New Video Game with a Set of Bongos

REDMOND, Wash.--March 14, 2005--That tap-tap-tapping you hear is the sound of the most innovative video game control system to come along in years. Get physical with Donkey Kong(R) Jungle Beat(TM), made exclusively for Nintendo GameCube(TM), by using a pair of bongos to control the game action. Mastering the game requires good timing, bongo abilities and a love of bananas.

"You can work up a sweat while rapping, tapping and clapping your way to high scores," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "When it comes to new ways to have fun with video games, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat more than fits the bill."

This single-player game requires players to time their movements just right, because on-screen characters react to the beats tapped on the bongos. Tap the right drum and Donkey Kong(R) runs to the right. Tap both drums at once and he'll jump. Clap and the built-in microphone will cause him to emit a destructive sound wave. Run, jump, swim, battle or swing on vines -- whatever you do, the control is at your fingertips. The beat of the bongos is everything.

Donkey Kong seeks to gather as many bananas as possible while exploring vast jungle kingdoms and battling a variety of enemies like warthogs and giant birds. He'll visit volcanic peaks and snowy mountains while hitching rides with a variety of swimming and flying friends. At the end of each stage, players earn a bronze, silver, gold or platinum crest, depending on how many bananas they have collected. The more crests they collect, the more levels open up.

Fans can visit www.donkeykong.com for more information. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older, is available now and is available packaged with or without a DK Bongos controller.

So the US will finally see this game? It's been in stores here for at least a month now.

This sucks...I have to choose between this and Yoshi Touch & Go this weekend... ;_;

No problem. There's only about ten minutes of a gameplay in each game anyway so you have time for both! HA! face-icon-small-wink.gif

Zing!

I may get this instead of Star Fox Assault (price drop plz). I dunno. Arrested Development First Season DVD is priority face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I was really planning on buying this game (the demo was a blast!), but the price is $10 too high. The game with controller should be $50, like Donkey Konga was, not $60. Without bongos it should be $30. I'd pick it up right now if it it was $10 less...Just as a side note, I'm extremely happy that teams are asking for bongo dev kits, just to put my extra bongo to good use face-icon-small-smile.gif

So yeah, Touch and Go it is ^_^

Yeah guys I just finished the game. Its really fun but you can really get the feeling that its just a watered down platformer. The bongos are a blast to play with especially in some of the boss battles. Not too sure though that the price is good for it. If you have the money I would recommend getting it.

You finished it? How many hours?

joshnickersonMarch 15, 2005

I just the game on my way to class, and it's right here beside me in my book bag.

I'm not concerned with it's length, since it's really more of an arcade experience; you try to best your score from the previous play sessions. Tycho's review from Penny Arcade really wraps it up...

At any rate, if you are playing this game to win it you will be able to do so very quickly and without undue strain. You will stand astride it, the noble victor. Certainly you will have satisfied a "victory condition" and I could not fault you for believing yourself descended from kings. When you realize that there are not three but four crests per level, you will begin to realize the vast chasm between yourself and your supposedly royal heritage. Getting good at Jungle Beat is where the real meat is, otherwise you're talking about a "three hour tour."
